CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Vivi Ornitier
CANON: Final Fantasy IX
HISTORY: boop

STRENGTHS:

Kind - Vivi is the type of person unable to turn his back on a cry for help. Even if it might be a trap or a lure, he would rather take the risk of being caught and offer assistance. He's the kind of child who will help old ladies cross the street and jump unthinkingly into danger to save animals in crisis, willing to risk his own life for the lives and safety of others - a trait that has thankfully proven to bear fruit thus far, even in the harshness of the Outlands.

Just - If something that clashes with his personal moral sense occurs in front of him, Vivi will unthinkingly intervene. When confronted with something that he understands as wrong, he immediately speaks out or - as was more common in the Outlands - leaps to the persecuted party's defense. He refuses to back down, even under pressure or threats.

Inquisitive - Vivi is overwhelmingly curious for the world around him and its inner workings, and this shapes many of his interactions. If not stopped, he'll find his way into anything and everything that catches his interest, and because he doesn't want to bother people, he rarely actually says much about it, leading him to discover things that other people might miss or overlook.

FLAWS:

Adventurous - Vivi has a knack for getting into strange and troublesome situations, generally by wandering off and being at the wrong place in the wrong time. While these things aren't always his fault, he simply tends to roll with what happens without protesting or fighting against it, as long as it doesn't upset his moral sensibilities. Taken all together, it tends to get him into a great deal of escapades he can't get out of by himself.

Stubborn - Vivi is generally a mild-mannered boy, but when he latches onto something - whether that be a person, an object, or a point of view - it takes a great deal of effort to move him from it. He has an unfortunate tendency to laser focus on things he greatly desires to the point of disregarding everything else, which is a double-edged sword; stopping him or talking him down once he gets going can be a risky proposition.

Insecure - Without guidance, Vivi looks to other people to tell him what to do. This tendency to look for others' opinions before his own means that he pushes away his own gut instincts, even about situations he might have experience in, and puts himself - and those around him - in danger without knowing it. He's still unsure of his place in the world and what he's 'meant' to be doing, and it certainly shows.

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Vivi
AGE: 9
GRADE: 3rd Grade
AU BACKSTORY: : Vivi is a special type of construct colloquially known as a 'black mage', magical war machines made from a complex mixture of Outlands mist and stolen souls intended to serve as troops against humankind in Nightfall.

One of a series of prototypes to ensure the formula worked, Vivi was the last - and, as far as he knows, the only success. While in transit through the Outlands, an accident occurred and Vivi was seemingly lost. Giving the prototype up for dead after searching for some time, his creators considered the completed formula much more important to concentrate on.

Vivi, however, survived the accident that separated him from his captors, though his memory was lost in the process. Eventually aided by kindly strangers, he learned all he knew of society from them, and his first awareness of the strange world outside the Outlands - Earth.

By some twist of fate or luck he managed to make his way to Daybreak, determined to strengthen himself and learn more about the human world. Only time will tell whether he has the capability to hold a flame that can drive back the darkness, but it would be a strange occurrence indeed for a child made purely for humanity's destruction to develop the abilities of a Candle.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION:

- Vivi's major change is that he's not as naive as he is in canon; time spent traveling in the Outlands has changed that. He's more worldly and experienced to some extent; even in his short life, he's borne witness to both great kindness and great cruelty, and has reflected deeply on what that means.

- He has actually existed for nine years, physically! Though it took time for him to be perfected, so out of those nine years he was only active for like three or four of those. That's a lot more time to explore than canon Vivi's six months before the start of the game, though.

RACE: Outlands Construct. Vivi's existence is formed from Outlands Mist combined with stolen souls - bound, shaped, and placed inside a body to animate it. He's a weird unique edge case!

SECRET SOCIETY: The magic that binds Vivi to his body has an uncertain heritage, and its signature is muddled. But one thing is for certain - it is ancient, and unmistakably daemonic. It would be easy to misidentify him as one of the Contracted, or as a result of a powerful pact.

POWERS: Even though he's young, Vivi is a construct made to shape and handle Mist - this allows him a great deal of offensive power, limited only by his will and emotions.

- His current capabilities are the ability to summon bolts of fire, lightning and ice, and to put enemies to sleep and drain their energy.

They don't have any more power than their natural versions would; a lightning strike from Vivi would have the same effect as a lightning strike from a thunderstorm.

The more magical power he concentrates into them, the more resistant they are to things that don't resist magic and natural laws; a fire fed by magic would be able to burn underwater, and a lightning bolt charged with magic could rip through rubber instead of being absorbed by it.

His major drawback is that when he casts spells and reshapes this raw Mist into something he can use, he essentially pulls it from his own life force; too much spellcasting will make him feel sick and weak. The Outlands had plenty of Mist for him to use that didn't drain him, however, so he's not aware of this limit yet.

As he is a fully-functioning prototype and was meant to be used to scout out the human world, where Mist is unpredictable and sometimes scarce, the daemonic spells that bind him to a body tear open a miniature portal to the Outlands and draw Mist into him when his reservoirs are low - at the cost of giving him terrible nightmares if asleep, and making his form shift wildly when awake.

When Vivi's emotions run high, he enters a more powerful state that enhances the power of his spells, but also drains him much faster. Generally, he's only good for one or two bursts of such spellcasting before he exhausts himself.

- He's half dead people and half Outlands power, so he's supernaturally sensitive. He can see ghosts and other supernatural phenomena without trouble, and he can tell the nature of someone's power if he focuses enough, to a basic level (whether someone is a Candle or a Contracted or a mage, for example).

- His ability as a Candle would be the ability to create and draw barriers that can repel enemies or ward rooms, made more powerful and specific the more Vivi knows about the things he wards against (at the cost of only keeping those things out and nothing else), but that will be for later development.

HOUSING: Anywhere in Aube, I've already got someone in Disaster Dormitory Lumiere.

RP SAMPLE

INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT
(The following scenario is available to all characters who are apping in and is considered canon - before formal admittance into Daybreak Academy the administrative staff will give a series of questions and prompts to get a better feel for the character. Respond to the prompts in-character. Characters may lie, mark if they do with the word "lie" in parenthesis after the question answer.)

1. WHAT DO YOU MOST DESIRE FOR YOUR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE?
[ He looks a bit blank. ] I...want to find out more things about Earth? I've been in the Outlands a lot already...oh, but there's still lots of stuff I want to learn about the Outlands too! [ He'll be here a while. ]

2. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN THE FUTURE?
...Learning? [ He doesn't seem to have given much thought about what he might like to do with his life. ] Learning's good.

3. DESCRIBE YOUR IDEA OF AN IDEAL SCHOOL EXPERIENCE.
Lots of reading! And things to do! And, um. Maybe some friends? That would be nice.

9. WHEN GIVEN FREE TIME, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT?
I want to look at interesting things, so I do! I've seen a lot of interesting things. Do you want to see some?

11. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR PEERS?
...I dunno. I'd like them to be nice to me! But I don't really expect anything from them...that'd be weird, wouldn't it?

13. DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN RELY ON YOUR PEERS, OR DO YOU FEEL YOU MUST EXCEL ON YOUR OWN?
...I don't know anyone here. So I dunno. But teamwork sounds fun, so I want to work with people...being on my own's kind of lonely, and I don't want to just be protected all the time... [ And off he goes on a tangent. ]

14. IN THIS EVER-CHANGING WORLD, WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE FUTURE?
Um...that I don't know what's coming next! It could be anything. Good or bad things! But I hope they'll be good things!

15. WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE DO YOU FEAR THE MOST?
...That it won't exist.

16. WHAT MEMORIES DO YOU HOPE TO HOLD AT THE END OF YOUR JOURNEY?
Lots of them! [ Quantity is the important thing here, apparently. ] I want to explore as much as I can! I want to see everything!

[ Vivi that's a tall order. ]

17. WHAT IN THE FUTURE DO YOU MOST LOOK FORWARD TO?
Uh, um. Having one...?

But friends would be really, really nice! I hope there's a lot of people I can make friends with here!
